Each year, the American film Industry grosses more money than any other country since the 1920s. New York City hosted the world’s first motion picture as early as 1894, but in later years and presently it is hosted in Picture City, California, Los Angeles and Hollywood. One of America’s greatest films was released in 1941 by Orson Welles called Citizen Kane and the producer Walt Disney became as a result the leader in movie merchandising and animated film.

Some of the world’s greatest and most successful movies are produced in Hollywood, Gone with the Wind, Star Wars, Titanic and Avatar rated globally as outstanding. American film studios generate hundreds of movies each year, but rate third with Nigeria second and India first for proliferation in the world.

The modern American cinema drives into producing spectacle’s since the early days and spectacular epics increased in popularity since the 1950s. The American films are becoming more divided into categories, independent films and blockbusters. A blockbuster always emphasize spectacle, high production and star power and obviously this then demands an enormous budget. Massive advertising and star power are relied upon for blockbusters to attract massive audiences.

Blockbusters which are successful can reap considerable profits and offset production costs and it can not always be guaranteed that it will not be a failure, thus studios supplement them with independent productions. They use small budgets and often they are made independently and high professional quality of all aspects associated with the production is emphasized.
